Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

Matthew 10:29-31 (NIV)

Sparrows are the least interesting and most common of all birds.  At least that has always been my opinion of sparrows.

People have been telling me for some time that I should write.  I should blog.  As if I am an expert.  I feel more like a sparrow.  Common, ordinary, not terribly interesting.

But finally, a broken leg gave me time and space to begin, so I started by reflecting with God on what to call this blog.  The idea of a sparrow came to mind.

While my life with God began as a young child, learning to love and trust God day to day has been a long and slow journey with some highs and lots of lows. Along the way, God has captured my heart with His love and care, and with the realization that life on this earth is temporary, but life with God is eternal and begins here and now.  Jesus tells us in this passage in Matthew that God cares for the sparrows — yet we are worth much more than sparrows to Him. You are worth much more than sparrows to Him!

For quite a few years now, it has been my calling and my joy to walk alongside those who are also journeying in life with God.  I felt the need to be more equipped, so I finally went back to school to train to be a Christian Spiritual Director.

We all need companions for when the journey is rough, dark, confusing. A non-judgemental place where space is held to prayerfully explore life and what God might be doing in the midst of it all.

This blog is another way I hope to provide encouragement for the spiritual journey.

My adult life has been spent immersed in the life of the church. I have been married to Robert since 1985 and together we raised two creative daughters.

I have received encouragement and training from the writing of Larry Crabb and his School of Spiritual Direction which I attended in 2010, and from my studies to complete an M.A. in Christian Ministry/Spiritual Formation from Friends University, Wichita, Kansas in 2014.  I offer Individual and Group Spiritual Direction as well as am available to lead Personal Spiritual Retreats.

I am honored that you are reading this blog and pray that God will stir your heart towards His love and care for you.  Feel free to contact me if you are interested in more information regarding any of the ministries I provide.
